We've had a few days of exploring now, and the kids (and me and Noah) are noticing all kinds of different stuff between here and home. Grocery shopping is a big one - obviously everything is in Dutch which doesn't make it easy. Bread and produce are really inexpensive, packaged stuff like cereal is pricey. They had Frozen graham crackers which of course we had to get, and Minion yogurt which we bought too. Peanut butter was tricky. I have no idea what we actually got but I guess we'll find out when we try it. Greek yogurt comes in these gorgeous glass containers. And there are juice makers at the store so you can buy fresh juice. The parks/playgrounds are also totally different - full of rope activities (zip lines, swings on ropes) and not big structures. Everyone plays soccer! Garbage pick up was an exciting thing to watch today. Soph and E were fascinated!
We walked on the boardwalk. That is IJmeer Lake which eventually feeds out to the North Sea.
Garbage day!
At the harbor. We had lunch at a cute place called NAP.
We've put in some solid park time in the past 72 hours. I met a mom at the park today who was from Chicago and has been here 10 years. She had twin 8 year olds and a 10 year old and said that this island of Amsterdam has the highest percentage of kids of anywhere in western Europe. It's CRAZY how many kids there are!
Getting along. Yay!!!
Funny statues in a park.
